BIOGRAPHY

"Art is the only way to run away without leaving home."

                                                                            - Twyla Tharp

Julia Erin Urich returned to live performance with impeccable timing – in 2020.

After a long hiatus from the stage - building a business, raising two children, and rescuing some animals -  Julia set out in 2019 to dust off rusty acting muscles, and then began working on sleepy vocal cords in 2020. After many lessons and workshops, she began again, singing in a number of socially-distanced and outdoor musical cabarets during the COVID pandemic.

As restrictions eased, Julia returned to theatre, where you may have recently seen her as Desirée Armfeldt in “A Little Night Music” at Civic Theatre of Allentown, or at Between the Lines Studio Theatre as Agnes in "The Moors" or as Emma in "Stupid Fucking Bird." Some other favorite roles include Aldonza in "Man of La Mancha," Nettie in "Carousel," and Grandma Tzeitel in "Fiddle on the Roof."

Beyond performance, Julia co-owns FireRock, an Emmy® Award-winning video production company. Skeptical of her own skills, with degrees in music and theatre, she was dragged into the TV/Film/Video industry by her then-best-friend, now-husband, Rocky. What was supposed to be “a little help with the business” has turned into a career and a passion for storytelling and connecting with people. Despite the occasional surge of self-doubt, sixteen years and nine Emmy® Awards later, she is starting to think she has convinced people she knows what she’s doing.

When not working on a project for FireRock, or performing on stage, you might find Julia playing ice hockey, coaching angsty teenage soccer players, teaching voice or piano, or making mischief with her husband, their two sons, their two pups, and their very vocal old cat at home in Allentown, PA.
